Port City’s grand final hat trick

In their first full season as a merged cricket club the Port City Leagues Magpies has 3 of their 4 grades competing in this weekend’s HRDCA Grand Finals.

The Maccas-Port City Bowling Club 1st Grade side will face Minor Premiers Macquarie in the Decider after they disposed of Wauchope by 48 runs.

In 2nd Grade the Designer Living Kitchens Leagues ‘Pies will face defending champions Wauchope who have won the past 6 premierships in a row.

Port City advanced after defeating Macquarie at Oxley Oval last weekend by 2 wickets with Tony Glavurdic taking 4 for 16 while six other bowlers each claimed a wicket to have the opposition dismissed for 117 in the 60th over.

In response Magpies were 4 for 46 at stumps on Saturday before going on with the job the following day where Jamie Hall top scored with 47 not out.

Matt Moore (18 runs) and Keegan Glavurdic (14) also made solid contributions with the bat and in the field. In 3rd Grade Comboyne will host Beechwood for the title after they beat Camden Haven by 1 wicket in a match that saw more than 460 runs scored in a 40 over a side game.

While the 4th Grade trophy will be fought out between Wauchope and Port City.

The Better Homes Leagues Magpies trounced Comboyne by 7 wickets in the preliminary final after the Tigers were dismissed for a total of 60 in the 29th over.

The ‘Pies passed the target in under 20 overs with Rob Mooney top scoring with 22* and Mick Gordon 14*.

Mooney also claimed 3 for 9 with the ball and along with Adam Power (3/17), Gordon (2/8) and Ian Dickson (2/9) they decimated the opposition.

The 1st and 2nd Grade Grand Finals will be played over 2 days commencing at 1pm on Saturday and then continuing at 11am on Sunday.
