Extra nurses critical

LOCAL hospitals and multi-purpose health campuses in Macksville, Bellingen, Kempsey, Wauchope, Port Macquarie, Wingham and the Manning are benefiting from an increasing number of nurse recruitments, according to Deputy Premier and Oxley MP Andrew Stoner.
“These local hospitals do a tremendous job in caring for the residents of the Oxley electorate and are critical facilities within the Mid-North Coast and Hunter New England Health Districts,” Mr Stoner said.
Health Minister Jillian Skinner that the O’Farrell-Stoner Government had recruited a record number of nurses since the election.
For the first time, more than 47,500 nurses are now working in public hospitals across the state.
Mr Stoner said the NSW Liberals and Nationals made a pre-election commitment to recruit an additional 2,475 nurses for the state’s hospitals in its first term.
“The news of more 234 nurses in the Mid-North Coast Local Health District and 616 nurses in the Hunter New England Local Health District is terrific news for patients, their families and carers, particularly in my electorate of Oxley where nurse numbers have increased substantially,” Mr Stoner said.
