Damaged jetty removed

THE floating jetty adjacent to the boat ramp at Westport Park was removed after an assessment of the structure discovered irreparable damage and deterioration.
Director of Infrastructure Service Jeffery Sharp said it was unfortunate the floating jetty required removal during the school holiday period when families and boat users frequent the area, however an assessment of the damage deemed it unsafe for public use.
“This removal will have an impact on launch and retrieval of boats in the short-term, but this will be partially rectified with the commencement of planned works to install a new floating pontoon at the end of the month,” Mr Sharp said.
“These works will also include widening of the existing boat ramp to allow for the installation of a secondary floating pontoon for the area when funding becomes available.”
