Paws for a good cause

HUNDREDS of dogs and their owners will flock to the Port Macquarie racecourse in 10 days’ time as part of the RSPCA Million Paws Walk.
All animal lovers are encouraged to dust off their walking shoes and join in the fund-raising and social event.
Port Macquarie-Hastings mayor Peter Besseling will officially open the walk with his two dogs Theo and Hunter.
Dogs and their owners can participate ina number of competition categories, such as best trick, fancy dress, best owner-pet duo, waggliest tail and best-in-show.
There will also be a raffle with the chance to win a whale-watching cruise for four people.
The Millions Paws Walk is the RSPCA’s biggest event and helps support the battle against animal cruelty.
“Fundraising is an essential component of the Million Paws Walk and this year we hope to raise $200,000 to assist the 30,000 animals that we care for each and every year,” NSW RSPCA chief executive Steve Coleman said.
