FREEMASONS from Lachlan Macquarie Lodge presented a cheque for $6000 to Max Heslehurst and Michael Storrier from the Port Macquarie Branch of Heart Support Australia last Wednesday, 24 April.
The amount raised was the result of a successful Charity Bare-Foot Bowls day conducted by Lachlan Macquarie Masonic Lodge, with the support of MasoniCare, the charity arm of Freemasonry, who matched the amount raised on the day dollar for dollar.
This was the first time Lachlan Macquarie Masonic Lodge had held such a day, which was made even better by the participation and support of a number of local business houses who donated prizes.
These prizes were utilised either as ’on- the-spot’ giveaways or during the large charity auction held during the afternoon activities. Special guests on the Charity Bowls Day included the local MP Leslie Williams and local personality Andrew Miedecke.
The cheque presentation took place at a dinner held at the Mykonos Mediterranean Tavern following Lachlan Macquarie Lodge’s monthly meeting which commemorated Anzac Day. Max Hezlehurst thanked members of Lachlan Macquarie Lodge for their generous donation.
He said that the money would go towards the construction of a walkway at the rear of Port Macquarie Base Hospital at the completion of the current extensions under construction.
The walkway is “purpose-designed” to give patients the opportunity to recuperate from surgery by making available a level boardwalk, complete with shelters, for the comfort of patients, relatives, visitors and the hospital’s staff to utilise.
