WAUCHOPE Blues lead the pack in the Group 3 rugby league competition after a compelling victory against rivals Port City on Saturday.
The result was never in doubt as the Blues ran in nine tries to four to beat the Breakers 46-24.
After three rounds, Wachope is now outright first, ahead of Old Bar Beach and Forster Tuncurry.
Old Bar jumped to second place with a narrow 32-30 win against the Port Macquarie Sharks on Saturday.
The Sharks trailed 18-0 at half time and managed to hit the lead after the break, but couldn’t hold out the Pirates.
Old Bar Beach scored a try with the final play of the game to win by two points.
The loss leaves the Sharks in sixth place, ahead of the lowly Taree City Bulls.
Michael Bright, Kurt Maloney, Samu Wara, Oral Monaghan and Tyrone Nelson were the Sharks’ scorers.
The narrow loss is sure to inspire Port Macquarie in its rivalry match with Port City this Saturday.
Although still early in the season, it shapes as a must-win contest for both sides.
