SOME of the best young golfers in the country – particularly NSW – have praised the Port Macquarie Golf Club after the two-day pro-am held this week.
One of the biggest pro-am tournaments in the state, Port Macquarie had put itself in contention for a tier two event in the future, the PGA said.
“Certainly the course is good enough to host a NSW Open or a PGA,” NSW tournament co-ordinator Darren Baynes said.
“The feedback from the players has been very positive.”
Final scores from the two-day pro-am were not available at the time of print, but defending champion Leigh McKechnie was in pole position to make it back-to-back wins.
The NSW star held a one-shot lead after carding a six under par 65 on the opening day.
He was in front of Dimitrios Papadatos on 66, with Matthew Millar two strokes away on 68.
Eight players were tied for fourth on 69.
Results from the Port Macquarie Pro-Am will be on the Independent’s website this morning.
