THE Hastings Business Women’s Network celebrated a significant milestone last week after it reached 200 members.
Membership has climbed by more than 30 per cent this financial year and the occasion was celebrated on Thursday around 70 members and guests, including mayor Peter Besseling, marked the group’s growth with a celebration breakfast at Waters Edge.
Network president Kelly Lamb said the 60 new members to have signed up since June last year included a mix of long-time Hastings business women and those new to town.
“It’s wonderful to have in our network a range of women at different stages in their careers and with such diverse backgrounds, as this helps us all learn from and support one another,” Mrs Lamb said.
“We have members who have been with us since the inception of the HBWN in 1999 and have a great deal of knowledge to share, and others who have moved to the area very recently and bring with them new skills and a fresh perspective.”
The 200th member, Lusanna Klotz, owner of Meg and Me, was honoured at the event with a commemorative plaque and a role in the official cake-cutting.
A Hastings resident of 10 years, Ursula Boorman said she joined the network recently after witnessing the contribution the group had made to the local business sector and community.
“I could see that membership of the group would provide benefits for my business and I was particularly keen to tap into the resources and support of the group as I transitioned to owning my own business,” Mrs Boorman said.
