CAPTION: Margaret Oswald was awarded life membership of the Country Women’s Association last week.
MARGARET Oswald has been a lynchpin of the Country Women’s Association since 1990 and was last week honoured with life membership.
She was surprised with a special ceremony at the Port Macquarie CWA branch rooms on Wednesday.
“It was quite a shock. I couldn’t believe all my friends were able to keep such a big secret,” she said.
Mrs Oswald said she retired to Port Macquarie in 1990 and soon joined up with the CWA.
“I was probably fairly young to retire and I felt I had some work left in him. So I did,” she said.
“I’m one of those people that doesn’t join just for the sake of it – I like to get stuck in.”
That’s exactly what she did.
She served as the branch president for seven years across two stints and was also president of the Mid North Coast group, sitting on the executive in Sydney.
Closer to home, Mrs Oswald and her executive on the Port Macquarie branch planned the new move to the current CWA rooms.
“The CWA has given me so much enjoyment and I have enjoyed giving my time,” she said.
