GEOGRAPHY students from Port Macquarie High School have impressed teachers after testing their skills and knowledge against 75,000 students from around Australia.
Nine students won high distinctions, six won distinction and seven received credits.
While presenting the awards at the school assembly, teacher Chris Fitzpatrick emphasised how outstanding these results were, with 46 per cent of the Year 9 and 10 students achieving high distinction, distinction or credits.
“It is a benchmark to show how well students are doing here at Port Macquarie High School,” he said.
Kath Berg, the competition’s national co-ordinator, said the competition played a role in promoting such an important subject to students and that she hoped that with the recently released new national curriculum, students would be given an even better opportunity to study the many fascinating aspects of geography.
