PORT Macquarie-Hastings Council mayor Peter Besseling has paid tribute to Rob Oakeshott’s contribution to the region.
“It is appropriate to recognise the work of Rob Oakeshott as both our state and federal member over a period spanning nearly 17 years,” Mayor Besseling said.
“Having experienced the hurly-burly of political life first-hand, I can appreciate Rob’s decision to spend more time with his young family.
“Rob’s greatest legacy has been his success in driving outcomes for tertiary education in our region and addressing the educational disadvantage of students from regional communities like ours.
“The delivery of a Food, Soil and Water Research Centre as an example, along with the funding secured for our regional airport, are but two major outcomes that have been delivered for council during his term as federal Member for Lyne.
“From a personal perspective, I have always found Rob to be a man of integrity who has been unwaveringly committed to the best interests of his local community and I wish him every success in his future endeavours.”
