THERE will be a new type of community group starting up in the Hastings area this month.
The Hastings Net has been formed to provide an opportunity for women in the region to network and socialise in a ’real life’ chat room without a formal structure or leadership politics.
One of the creative minds behind the process, Joan Burley, said the group provided local women with a great opportunity to interact amid everyone’s busy schedules.
“We are really enthusiastic about the group and hope to get a great response,” Ms Burley said.
“Many we have spoken to feel that a group such as this fills a need for those who don’t necessarily want the commitment of a typical organisation, but offers a social networking opportunity.”
The group will hold monthly gatherings over dinner, starting on Thursday 18 July at 6.30pm. Joan said The Hastings Net was inspired by a similar group formed in the Manning Valley.
“Our member Chris McDonell used to be part of The Manning Net, and we felt that vibrancy and ingenuity could be sustained here in the Port,” she said.
“The people that we spoke to thought it was a great idea.”
Joan and the others involved in The Hastings Net are encouraging people from all over the Hastings area to get involved with the project.
The group’s first gathering will be held at Waters Edge and Boutique Hotel and anyone interested in attending is encouraged to contact Joan on 02 6583 3310 before 10am on Monday 15 July. Dinner is $26 and drinks are BYO.
