Mental health clubhouse opens

AMID a break in the winter clouds, the Mental Health Endeavour Clubhouse building was officially opened last month by Mayor Peter Besseling, at its Hamilton Green venue.
Among the estimated 150 in attendance on Friday 28 June was an ecstatic committee who had waited 12 years for this moment.
The building opening was attended by a number of mental health consumers who are eagerly waiting to have an improved daily lifestyle once the building becomes operational.
Also in attendance were representatives from the many businesses in Port Macquarie who have supported the clubhouse over the years.
Overseeing the festivities were chairman of Endeavour Clubhouse Bob Boss-Walker, Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams, Wesley Uniting Employment’s Phil Pittis, Port Macquarie mayor Peter Besseling, General Manager of Recovery at the Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW Bill Guy, Endeavour Clubhouse committee members May Brown and Margaret Cunningham and consumer committee member Pamela Beverely.
Special mention was also made of Bonny Cook, Alan Openshaw, Maureen Cooke and Ruth Durrant who were all instrumental in contributing to the project.
Mr Walker gave thanks to the many others, past and present, who had made Endeavour clubhouse a reality. He admitted there were times when he doubted the project would ever be completed but his resilience ensured the dream became a reality.
During the event, Mr Guy announced a donation of $25,000 to go towards operational costs of the clubhouse and this was then matched by a donation from the local health service.
