Jan’s on call

JAN Dawes is an inspiration in her community.

The Laurieton resident has been volunteering for Lifeline Mid Coast for the past 16 years and last year decided to re-train her skills in a bid to provide telephone crisis support.
By doing so, it allowed Ms Dawes to volunteer to work on the phones at Lifeline.
After completing 92 hours of telephone work, Jan received her statement of attainment, which was presented to her by Lifeline head trainer Di Bannister at a special morning tea.
Ms Dawes said volunteering on the crisis lines was rewarding and personally satisfying.
“It has changed my life and how I interact with my family and friends. It’s really worthwhile and I get much more out of it than I put in,” she said.
Ms Bannister said she was proud of Ms Dawes’ commitment and thanked her for “helping save a lives and making a very valuable contribution to society”.
“With an ever-increasing demand on the service, telephone crisis supporters are a welcomed volunteer force, as the demand is set to grow.”
