Gough’s economic plan

By MATT NICHOLLS

A DESIRE to help the Australian economy avoid the next global financial crisis prompted Michael Gough to run for government at this year’s election.
The Port Macquarie lawn mowing contractor will run for the Citizens Electoral Council in a bid to keep the major parties honest in the campaign.
“I became interested in politics because I felt there was something wrong, not only with Australia, but the world,” Mr Gough said.
“The Citizens Electoral Council has real policies that work for the common good for all mankind. They put people before money.”
Mr Gough said he believed another global financial crisis was nearing and he was calling for changes to protect people from the potential fallout.
“The CEC is calling for a complete separation of commercial banking away from investment banking, along the lines of America’s 1933-1999 Glass-Steagall Act,” he said.
“We also want to see a government bank to direct public credit to revive our productive industries.”
Another item on Mr Gough’s wish list is to see more major infrastructure projects as a driver to reindustrialise the economy.
“I know the odds are against us in the election, but we still have a lot of good ideas that we would like to see the major parties adopt,” he said.
