WAUCHOPE’S all-conquering netball side flexed its muscles to win the Hastings Cup against the region’s best on Sunday.
The Lyrebirds won all five pool matches before thrashing a combined team 33-8 in the final.
Teams came from up and down the coast to play in the annual tournament, which is run by the Hastings Valley Netball Association.
The 10-minute quarter matches suited Wauchope as it led 15-7 at half-time against Port Combined Sport before powering to a 25-goal win.
The defence of Jule Holland, Kirra Trotman, Kendall Ward and Jade Cherry was dominant, which allowed mid-courters Emily Lewis, Jess Slater and Holly Lewis to feed goalers Anna Lewis and Gabby McInherny.
The Lyrebirds are second on the ladder in the HVNA Division 1 competition, two points behind Port Combined Kryptonite.
The final round will be played this Saturday before finals.
