WORKS on the Kooloonbung Creek pedestrian bridge will increase within the next week.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council said the bridge construction contractor would move onto the site, with the earthworks and foundations for the new structure to start in coming days.
Gary Randall, council’s group manager of infrastructure delivery said construction was estimated to run until the first week of December.
“Council will be working closely with the contractor and aiming to ensure that any delays are minimised so as to meet the pre-Christmas practical completion date,” Mr Randall said.
Meanwhile, work to replace the pavers (rumble strips) at the Clarence and Horton Street intersection have started.
These works were delayed previously due to quality issues with the bluestone pavers supplied for the project.
“The correct pavers have now been redelivered by the supplier, at no cost to council, and the remaining three sides of this busy intersection can be upgraded,” Mr Randall said.
“Immediately affected businesses and residents have been advised in writing of the proposed works.”
Paver replacement and curing will take around seven days for each part of the intersection.
“Every effort will be made to minimise the disruption to traffic and parking during these works but minor unavoidable delays may be encountered during this work,” Mr Randall said.
Council expects this remaining work will take approximately four weeks to complete, weather permitting.
