GOING to the movies will become much more popular in Port Macquarie, if early feedback about the multi-million-dollar extensions to the Majestic Cinema complex is indicative.
The upgraded complex boasts five state-of-the art computerised digital screens instead of three lower-tech ones, giving patrons much more choice and better quality images.
CEO Kieren Dell said they had predicted a 40-50 per cent increase in attendance once the extensions were completed and while it was too early to see if they would achieve that sort of an increase, the comments from patrons he had spoken to were all positive.
“The feedback from people I have spoken to is that they are quite amazed at the new look and the variety of movies on offer,” Mr Dell said.
“One of the most major pluses is that we are now no longer largely restricted to blockbusters and can screen many more select quality movies, which are of particular appeal to more mature moviegoers. Movies like Jobs, for instance, the story of Steve Jobs’ ascension from college dropout into one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of the 20th century.
“Now that it’s digital we can also run sporting events, concerts and play all sort of content.
“The select series is something people have been asking for a long time. We’ve tried to slot it in where we could, but this means we can do it regularly. Those sorts of movies really do appeal to the older market and anyone who doesn’t like the blockbuster blow-em-up, smash-em-up blockbusters.”
The new theatres opened for business last Monday, with an official opening last Wednesday night.
