Treasure trail on way

NEXT time you have some unwanted gear, don’t dump it – sell it!
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council is throwing itself behind the national Garage Sale Trail initiative to encourage residents to recycle and reuse unwanted items instead of putting them in the garbage bin.
Mayor Peter Besseling officially announced the council’s involvement last week at a light-hearted launch at the Port Macquarie Library, where there is a display of bric-a-brac and vintage gear to promote the event.
Council is one of 110 municipalities across the country supporting the event.
The national Garage Sale Trail is designed to help Australians reduce waste and reuse unwanted items in a fun and creative way.
This is the second year Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has supported the event, with 20 individuals and groups registering last year, which included some entire streets.
The idea is to have a large number of garage sales on a particular day – in this case, Saturday, 26 October so large numbers of people will follow the Garage Sale Trail on a massive bargain-cum-treasure hunt.
People who register their garage sale will have their address included on a map, which prospective treasure hunters can download from a website.
