Volunteers of good taste

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help stage the SBS Feast Tastings on Hastings in Port Macquarie on Sunday 27 October.
“We are seeking volunteers to assist with the information tent, in the SBS cooking demonstration pavilion and conduct research on the day with prepared questionnaires,” a spokesperson said.
“Volunteers are also needed to help clear tables and ensure patrons deliver refuse to the correct bins to minimise land-fill from the day to make the event a little greener.”
She said Tastings on Hastings was a great home-grown event that brought substantial economic benefits to the region.
‘It is also a wonderful opportunity for people to engage in the community, meet new people, develop new skills and of course have some fun and enjoy the bounty of our beautiful part of the world,” the spokesperson said.
“Volunteering is ultimately about helping others and having an impact on people’s well-being. This is a great opportunity to connect with your community and experience the best of our region at the same time.”
On the day, volunteer roster sessions are 3.5 hours, or seven hours if they volunteer for the entire day. Volunteers are relieved for a lunch break and have an opportunity to wander and enjoy the event. They are also provided with lunch, tea, coffee, cold water and a comfy place to rest their feet during their breaks. Every volunteer receives a SBS Feast Tastings On Hastings T-shirt and cap to wear on the day and keep as well as a letter of appreciation from the mayor.
The event will be staged on the Town Green and in Clarence Street from 9am to 4pm. This year’s chosen charity is Reap, a service that aims not only to reduce food waste but provide food to those in need.
