CARERS of children with disabilities or developmental delays have taken part in a special series of workshops aimed at helping these kids reach their goals.
In the AppAbility workshops speech therapists worked with carers to explore how apps on devices like iPads and iPhones can help children with disabilities reach their full potential.
“Our AppAbility workshops are aimed at families, teachers, therapists, and other people who care for kids with disabilities,” speech pathologist Sarina Mahony said.
“We work with carers to help them build on their skills and strengths by using popular technology that we know kids respond well to.
“When used in conjunction with other tools and strategies, apps on devices like iPads can deliver huge benefits to children with disabilities.”
The workshop covered a range of areas including iPads for beginners, apps for occupational therapy and apps for speech therapy.
Disability service provider Northcott delivered the workshops free to the community thanks to funding from NSW Ageing, Disability and Home Care.
Northcott is a not-for-profit disability service provider which supports more than 13,000 children and adults living with a disability, their families and carers across NSW and the ACT.
