PORT Macquarie-Hastings Council has strengthened its commitment to creating opportunities for workplace trainees by resolving to appoint HGT Australia Ltd, trading as Novaskill, to manage a traineeship program for the next two years.
Mayor Peter Besseling said council placed a great amount of importance on its traineeship program because it provided valuable career opportunities.
“It is also another way of council supporting the local community,” he said.
Council has accepted a tender from Novaskill, for the period 17 October 2013 to 16 October 2015 with a further 12-month option available. Its primary role will be to provide and manage trainees on council’s behalf.
Council currently hosts a total of nine full-time Certificate II and III trainees in the areas of horticulture, arboriculture and water/sewer operations with the duration of each traineeship being either 12 months or two years.
TWO BENEFIT FROM MAYOR’S SPORTING FUND
THE Mayor’s Sporting Fund has helped another two local athletes pursue their sporting dreams.
Council last week accepted a recommendation from the Mayor’s Sporting Fund sub-committee to provide $700 to Bradley Paterson and $200 to Sharni-Lee Pollard.
Bradley will use the money to offset the expenses incurred competing at the Australian National Hockey Championships in Melbourne between 26 September and 6 October, while Sharni-Lee will use the money to offset the expenses incurred competing at the National Futsal School Championships in Sydney from 29 September to 4 October.
ROTARY JOINS AUS DAY COMMITTEE
THE Rotary Club of Laurieton will play a key role in the organisation of local Australia Day celebrations following a decision at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s October meeting.
Council accepted an expression of Interest from the Rotary Club to assist in the planning and staging of Australia Day activities in the Camden Haven.The group will be advised in writing of its appointment to the Australia Day sub-committee.
