A NEW book by local writer Kerry Medway will be launched on Saturday by Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor Peter Besseling.
Called ‘Is Ned Kelly in Heaven?’ the book is about one of Australia’s most notorious bushrangers and his encounter with another of Australia’s almost unknown heroes in Melbourne gaol in 1880.
Already it has received favourable reviews. Pastor Daryl James wrote: “It was such an enthralling read I couldn’t put it down. I finished it in one sitting with such joy in my heart to read again and again, the faithfulness of God in setting up situations.” Pastor David Crabtree: “This is a story every Australian should read, this is sadly a part of our almost unknown history. Kerry spent over two years researching and writing ‘Is Ned Kelly in Heaven?’ which is the second book he has written on Australian bushrangers, the first being about a young man who rode with Ben Hall called ‘Teenage Bushranger’.
‘Is Ned Kelly in Heaven?’ was printed locally by Peter Simmons at Chrysalis Print and a local artist Colleen Palmer helped design the front cover.
As well as the official launch by the mayor at the Port Macquarie-Hastings Library at 10.30am on Saturday, the book will also be re-launched at Grace Church and blessed by Stephen Palmer at 8am and 10am church services this Sunday.
For those not familiar with Kerry, he is a former Anglican minister and was the senior pastor of Grace Church in Port Macquarie, an independent church. He has also served in churches in Moree and Tinga in NSW and pioneered a church on the Coober Pedy opal fields in South Australia.
His most popular book to date is ‘Bush Preacher Bites the Dust’, which sold 16,000 copies. He is married to Julie for 40 years and has three daughters and two granddaughters.
