TAFE students enrolled in the Diploma of Hospitality are preparing for yet another assessment tonight – this time with a twist. This evening, they will deliver a night of indulgence for the public and if successful, more than just their marks are set to benefit.
North Coast TAFE community relations officer Trisha McIntyre is competing in the inaugural Dancing with the Hastings Stars events in support of Cancer Council NSW.
Trisha and other local ‘stars’ have had to learn a routine to perform to a 300-head crowd of Hastings supporters and also raise funds for the Cancer Council in the process.
Trisha said her sights naturally turned to her place of work when it came to the fund-raising side of things.
“I identified a fantastic opportunity in teaming up with the hospitality students to put on a fund-raising event that would be set to support both their course and my fundraising target,” she said.
‘In-Doll-Gents’ – as the event’s name suggests – is a night of indulgence. On offer from 6pm at the Port Macquarie TAFE’s Graduates Bar and Restaurant will be tastings of Hastings’ finest local produce, from boutique beverages to cheese, coffee and chocolate. There will also be a swing dancing demonstration and silent auction.
