Net speed-up for some

MORE than 180 more homes and businesses in the Port Macquarie region will be getting high-speed broadband soon – but when the main areas of Port Macquarie and Wauchope will receive the new service is still up in the air.
The National Broadband Network Co. has announced a further four Mid North Coast communities will be the next to benefit from the high-speed broadband rollout: Jolly Nose, Kendall, Kew and Logans Crossing.
Residents in these areas were encouraged to visit the NBN Co. website to see if their home or business was included as part of the coverage footprint via the interactive map: www.nbnco.com.au/rollout/rollout-map
However, asked by the Independent when the NBN would be rolled out in the central Port Macquarie and Wauchope areas, a spokesman was unable to give any dates, apparently because of the review ordered by the new Federal Government.
“NBN Co. in line with the government’s interim statement of expectations is working to transition information on the NBN rollout,” the spokesman said.
“Details will be updated when further areas enter the building stage and the shape of the rollout becomes clearer following the completion of the strategic review. The review will determine how best to provide access to very fast broadband to all Australians as soon, cost-effectively and affordably as possible.”
It takes around 12 months from the start of construction until residents and business owners can order NBN retail services from telephone or internet service providers.
NBN Co’s wholesale fixed wireless service offers download speeds of up to 25 megabits per second and upload speeds of up to five megabits per second.
NBN Co also plans to deliver these wholesale speeds over satellite in rural and remote areas when its long-term satellite service launches in 2015.
