THE superstructure for the new Kooloonbung Creek footbridge in Port Macquarie is continuing to attract plenty of interest after being lifted into place by crane on Thursday night.
The bridge will provide a key pedestrian link between Westport Park and the Town Green and a much safer pedestrian crossing of Kooloonbung Creek.
It is being funded through the Federal Government’s Regional Communities Initiative and contributions from Port Macquarie CBD property owners through the Port Macquarie Town Centre Masterplan.
The council’s infrastructure delivery group manager Gary Randall said that Thursday night’s lift went according to plan with extremely favourable weather conditions.
It will still be a few weeks before the bridge is opened to the public with lighting, balustrading and associated site works still to be undertaken.
The project is scheduled for completion in mid December in time for the busy Christmas holiday period.
