SATURDAY’S chemical clean-out has been declared a success with more than 200 people taking the opportunity to dispose of unwanted chemicals from in and around the home at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s Koala Street depot.
Some 219 people used the clean-out to dispose of a mix of household wastes including paints, general household chemicals, aerosol cans, pool chlorines, oil and general liquid pesticides to name a few.
The estimated volume would be around three to five tonnes.
This event was part of a regional collection through the Midwaste group of councils, funded through a grant by the EPA, so at little cost to the local community.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council also accepts household quantities (under 20 litres) of hazardous materials free at all waste facilities in the Port Macquarie-Hastings area.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this service to dispose of these materials safely.
