Friendship and a purpose

L to R: Anne Maxwell, Judy Jhonson, Noeleen Hayward and Ronda Laws hold some of the contents for the special Christmas baby bundles.

IF you would like to join a club where the emphasis is on fun and friendship, then the Inner Wheel Club of Port Macquarie West may be just what you are looking for.
The club is a women’s club with 41 members which started 39 years ago. Originally women had to have an affiliation with a Rotarian to be eligible to join, but today any woman who feels she would like to join to enjoy friendship is extremely welcome.
The objects of Inner Wheel are to promote true friendship, encourage the ideals of personal service and foster international understanding.
As well as attending a dinner meeting once a month at Panthers, the women have craft and friendship mornings every two weeks and other social activities through the year.
Projects include raising money for cord blood research, providing morning tea at the Relay for Life, a Biggest Morning Tea for Cancer fundraiser, catering for the bridge club and running a fund-raising Bunnings barbecue.
Members also have a special project at Port Macquarie Base Hospital which is very dear to their hearts involving the preparation of baby bundles for the premi babies, consisting of a baby shawl, singlets, socks, booties, hats, a teddy or similar toy and various other items.
At Christmas they will assist the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West selling raffle tickets for the club’s major fund-raiser. Inner Wheel members will also deliver special Christmas baby bundles to the premi ward for babies born over the Christmas holiday period.
All money raised from the activities throughout the year is allocated to charities.
