BUSINESS owners in the Hastings have been asked to dig deep, and donate last-minute raffle prizes for an event being held today.
The Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce and combined business networks are holding their annual Christmas Party tonight from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at Rydges in Port Macquarie.
While the party will obviously have a fun side, it also has an altruistic one in that the profits from the night will go to the Port Macquarie soup kitchen.
Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce spokeswoman Lisa McPherson said the soup kitchen was set up by Sister Marjorie McLachlan more than a decade and today assists more than 150 people every week, with that number expected to climb over the holiday period.
The kitchen is open every Monday from around 9.30am to 1pm and provides people with a three-course meal, tea or coffee and – just as importantly – a friendly chat.
Lisa said the soup kitchen was in great need of further donations leading up to the busy holiday period so they would be able to cater for demand, which was why Christmas party sponsor MBC Recruitment had chosen them as the worth recipients of proceeds from the party.
If you can donate something to be raffled, please contact the Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce as early as possible today on 6583 4412.
