NEXT time you have a big clean out and decide it’s high time to get rid of that old X-ray film from the time you broke your arm 20 years ago, don’t just chuck it in the rubbish – recycle it.
Port Macquarie X-ray is working together with the Willing and Able Foundation to re-cycle old X-ray films.
Willing and Able staff sort the X-rays into size and category, whether digital or dry film. They then sell them onto an e-waste company, who shreds the films to ensure the privacy of the individual and then washes them multiple times to extract any silver, which is sold. The tiny plastic pieces left over are then recycled.
Old X-rays can be dropped off at Willing and Able, at 39 Jindalee Road, Port Macquarie.
