AFTER being named fifth on the list of New South Wales’ most generous World Vision gifts purchasers in 2012, World Vision Australia is encouraging Port Macquarie residents to take the top spot this Christmas.
Purchasing close to 400 World Vision gifts, Port Macquarie residents came in behind Sydney, Castle Hill, Baulkham Hills and Mosman.
The World Vision gifts of chickens and eggs ($10), clean drinking water ($60), pencils for schools ($5), a lamb ($60), and mosquito nets ($15) proved to be the most popular items.
World Vision Australia CEO Tim Costello said Port Macquarie residents should be proud of their achievements in bringing hope to children and communities around the world.
“What can seem like a small gift to us, can have a lasting impact in communities living in poverty,” Mr Costello said.
“I commend the people of Port Macquarie for helping to share the true spirit of Christmas with some of the world’s most vulnerable children and their families, and hope that they can give with kindness again in 2013,” he said.
As well as purchasing World Vision gifts online and from major shopping centre retail stands around the country, 2013 marks the first time people can purchase World Vision gifts on smartphones and tablets within four easy steps.
There are 43 gifts available that range in price from $5 for school pencils to $1425 for clean water for a community.
World Vision gifts support programs in Australia and around the world that range from agriculture, health and sanitation, and education to emergency response and gender equality.
