THE Port Macquarie Historical Society capped off another successful year with a Christmas lunch at the Port Macquarie Golf Club last Wednesday.
“We like to hold our Christmas lunch around International Volunteer Day (5 December) as a dual celebration of the year end and the efforts of our members and volunteers,” Port Macquarie Historical Society president Debbie Sommers said.
“2013 has been a very busy and rewarding year for us including being named joint winner of the 2013 community group of the year award in the council’s Australia Day awards and one of our volunteers, Lil Andrews, winning the local volunteer-of-the-year award,” Ms Sommers said.
“Both awards were great recognition of the efforts of all our volunteers to protect and preserve our rich and unique history and heritage for the benefit of the community.”
