THE small township of Kendall is smashing it big time in an online tennis competition.
Tennis Australia’s AO Blitz competition is an interactive online competition that invites individuals, schools and clubs to take on a series of fun challenges and win prizes. Registered participants earn points for taking challenges, which are then awarded to their nominated town. The towns with the most points will be represented on court by one of the world’s top tennis players at the Australian Open in 2014.
The Kendall Tennis Club throwing itself right behind this competition since it started in October, even topping the score list at times.
“We have over 140 participants signed up and doing challenges along with four schools,” a spokesperson for the tennis club said.
“You don’t have to be a tennis player to sign up, anyone can play. All the club’s points along with the participants’ points and the school points add to the town’s ranking.
“If we come first, we will be allocated either the number one men’s or women’s seed during the Australian Open. Imagine Rafa, Novak or Serena playing for the township of Kendall.
“Should that player allocated to Kendall win the open, the whole town will get a party thanks to Tennis Australia and the individual points winner will get $10,000 sponsored by ANZ.”
The competition runs through to 31 December and members of Kendall Tennis Club would love more people from the Hastings to get mind them.
Anyone can sign up at AOBlitz.com.au – you need to nominate a town you want to play for by stating the postcode (Kendall’s is 2439).
During the first weeks of the competition the Kendall Tennis Club was inducted into the competition’s hall of fame for the best-run competition.
Kendall school was recently inducted into the hall of fame for best photo of school dressed in blue and Heron’s Creek Primary has since been inducted for best racquet blitz challenge, passing the ball more than 100 times.
