PHONES and Facebook exploded shortly after 6am yesterday after the Higher School Certificate results were posted online and students rushed to share their marks.
Hastings students again excelled, with all schools reporting many outstanding results.
The star performer at MacKillop Senior College was Katie McCosker, who was named in the State All Rounders list, having achieved band 6 results (90+) in all subjects including Advanced English, Drama, Ancient History, Personal Development, Health & Physical Education and two-unit Studies of Religion.
All nine Drama students at MacKillop also achieved band 6 – an amazing result – while at St Joseph’s Regional College Ryan Moore’s Industrial Technology class also scored 22.72 percent above the state average.
At Wauchope High School the students scored 10 top band results (band 6 or extension 4) with another 27 in the bands below (band 5 or extension 3).
Sarah Houseman received five top band results and one in the second band. Sarah consistently scored in the 90s, notching 95 in both Agriculture and Chemistry. Rebecca Hicks managed three band 6 results and another three band 5s, with an HSC mark of 97 in Senior Science. Natalie Schmitzer and Jackson Thompson also scored band 6 results, both consistently scoring marks of 80 and above, as did Nigel Malcolm, who narrowly missed out on a band 6.
At Port Macquarie High School the two top students were Jack Budgen and Chelsea Mavin. Jack achieved two band 6s, two band 5s and two extension 3s, which are the equivalent of a band 5. Chelsea got two band 6s, one band 5 and an extension band 6.
Overall Port Macquarie students scored 12 band 6s and 86 band 5s. Other students to do well included Ashleigh Tod, Jasmine Forbes and Elleke Hoogland.
The top student at Westport was Liam Clarke, who achieved three band 6s and two band 5s, closely followed by Jeremy Wall with two band 6s and three band 5s.
Other Westport students to excel included Liam McCluskey, Mitchell Jordan, Joseph Compton and Mitchell Eslick. Science students in particular did incredibly well.
The next milestone for the students will be the Australian Tertiary Assessment Rankings, which will be released sometime today, a ranking based on scaled HSC results used to determine university placements.
Wauchope High School relieving principal Nicole Gough spoke for all principals when she said all of Year 12 needed to be congratulated.
“It takes the whole year to push each other and be determined to succeed,” she said.
