At last Tango in Port Macquarie

Leanne with the painting to be auctioned, Merlot Tango. 106818

THE auction of a stunning work by Port Macquarie artist Leanne Prussing is expected to be one of the highlights of the Rotary Club’s Great Gatsby dinner-dance on Friday, 25 October.
The painting, called Merlot Tango, is a vibrant work with a wine glass in the foreground and a couple dancing in the background.
It will be auctioned with a reserve of $1200, which is excellent value for one of Leanne’s works.
The Port Macquarie-based artist has a long and successful history as a painter, including major exhibitions and submitting entries in the famous Archibald six times. Next year she will be entering the Archibald again with a painting of a well-known Port Macquarie man, whose name will be kept secret until the work is unveiled for judging.
The well-known artist said she was inspired to do the Merlot Tango painting being auctioned after taking tango lessons.
“I paint what I see and what I am feeling,” she said.
Leanne says she likes helping the community and this is the second painting she has donated to Rotary, with the first also being auctioned at a Rotary function last year.
Money raised at this year’s dinner-dance will go to Australian Rotary Health and mental health research.
Other auction items include a Roosters first-grade rugby league jersey and a poster signed by film producer Baz Luhrmann, who made the film The Great Gatsby. The auctioneer will be David Plews.
Mr Luhrmann will be represented at the dinner by his mother, Barbara Martin.
The event is being organised by the committee of Port Macquarie Rotary Club, headed by Sheila Openshaw.
Requests for tickets should be made to Sheila Openshaw on 6582 5592.
