Days of wine and oysters

Artists markets will be another drawcard.

IF THE word “wine” or “oysters” strikes an immediate chord of delight with you, there is one event on Australia Day that most definitely should be on your to-do list.
John Cassegrain Wines and Armstrong Oysters have combined for Oysters in the Vines, which will be staged on Sunday 26 January at Cassegrains, just outside Port Macquarie.
Now in its eighth year, the annual Oysters in the Vines has something for everyone, including beer for the non-wine drinkers, wood-fired pizzas and family entertainment galore.
You can sample succulent local rock oysters straight from local oyster farms with a variety of exotic toppings available, including the traditional Kilpatrick and mornay. Throughout the day, oyster experts will also be demonstrating how to open an oyster, with a bit of background on the local industry thrown in.
Cassegrain Wines have selected a fine range of wines to showcase at this event, so you can grab a bottle to enjoy with lunch while you enjoy the taste sensation of local oysters.
Wines will be available for purchase both at the event and cellar door and special event day offers will be available from the cellar door.
Different types of beer will also be available, including Coopers, Black Duck and Wicket Elft.
Food will include fish and chips, Bellingen pasta, paella, pies (including buffalo), wood-fired pizzas, fresh juice, wraps, cakes, pastries and ice-cream.
The artist markets will also be on again, featuring more than 70 stallholders and their colourful arts and crafts.
Entertainment will include Chelsea Morgan, Man Minx and Marina (a three-piece female band) and other performers, plus a jumping castle and face-painting for the younger children.
Free parking is available on-site for the event and attendees are invited to bring their own chairs or picnic rugs so they can enjoy the alfresco family fun in comfort.
The fun starts at 9am and will finish around 4pm. No BYO food or alcohol is allowed. There is an undercover area and the event will go ahead regardless of the weather.
