Bargain and a barbecue

ON THE Saturday of the Australian Day weekend the historic Douglas Vale homestead and vineyard in Port Macquarie will be staging a giant panda-monium garage sale and barbecue.
The event will run from 9am until 2.30pm and visitors will be able to grab a bargain on the white elephant tables, enjoy a barbecue or picnic in the lovely grounds and check out the toy pandas hiding in the bamboo.
During the day they can join in a free tour of the historic homestead, which dates back 150 years and has been painstakingly restored by volunteers.
Visitors can also enjoy a free tasting of the interesting wines on offer and famous Isabella port, which organisers hope the taste testers will enjoy so much that they buy a bottle or two, or three!
Tea, coffee, water and soft drinks will also be available.
Douglas Vale is solely run by volunteers and all funds raised go to the ongoing conservation of the heritage-listed property.
Some of the unique items that can be viewed include a family Bible dating from the early 1600s.
The homestead is located right on the edge of Port Macquarie at 235 Oxley Highway, between Westport Primary School and Westport High School.
