IN 2014, Port United will have stability at the top with the club announcing the same quartet of coaching staff for the Football Mid North Coast Premier League squad.
Chris Walsh (first-grade coach), Nathan Attwells (reserve-grade coach), Lindsay Thorn (first-grade manager) and Bill Ervine (PL physio/reserve-grade manager) will all return for the new season.
After a successful 2013 campaign, United will be looking for a strong showing this season with the majority of last year’s squad returning plus the addition of some new players who have joined the club.
The Green Bloods fell agonisingly short of the first-grade grand final last season, going down 3-2 in the final to eventual winners Macleay Valley Rangers. The club’s reserve-grade outfit went all the way and were crowned champions.
United players (junior and senior) are now able to register for the new season with online registrations open. Contact the club through email at portunitedfc@yahoo.com.au or via inbox on Facebook to Port United FC for more information or to receive the club’s registration package.
Unofficial pre-season fitness sessions have begun for those interested (all the club’s senior men’s/ladies and older aged junior players are invited to attend). These are being held every Tuesday and Thursday evening in January at 6pm with players to meet in the southern carpark at Lighthouse Beach. For more information on these sessions, contact Bill Ervine on 0438 825 602.
Returning first-grade coach Chris Walsh said it was an exciting year ahead for the club.
“I’m looking forward to getting back into it after the off season,” he said.
“Early indications are good re our squad with some new faces and returning experienced players. And once again some of the club’s talented juniors are pressing for places in the top squads which is great to see.”
Official training for Premier League will commence on Thursday 6 February. Interested players can contact head coach Walsh on 0428 413 805 for information. New players to the squad are welcome to join with pre-season trial games set to begin on Saturday 22 February with United taking on Maitland FC from the Northern NSW New FM First Division. Also on the pre-season schedule is the Nambucca Challenge Cup weekend on 15 and 16 March.
