STRAIGHT off the set of the brand-new season of So You Think You Can Dance, Melbourne’s Yvette Lee and Sydney Contemporary Dance legend Jason Winters are in Port Macquarie teaching local dance students as part of the annual Summer Dance Intensive.
Yvette and Jason have been teaching dance master classes since Monday and will be joined later in the week by Yolanda Thomas from Los Angeles, Angela Jamieson from London and Ebony Wakefield from Melbourne.
Students are taking class in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, Commercial Jazz, Musical Theatre and – a favourite among the senior students – a technique class based on kicks, turns and leaps.
Starting with students from seven years of age all the way up to a few adult participants, the Summer Dance Intensive is open to all dance students no matter where they train. Each day the students take six classes, including a boot camp-style conditioning and stretch program which starts the day preparing the students for a big day of dance.
This is the second year in a row Wauchope and Port Macquarie Performing Arts principal Stacey Morgan has organised the event.
