A GROUP of high profile Australians rode into Port Macquarie on motorbikes on Monday.
The epic Rock N Ride tour, in its second year, included visits to six headspace centres over five days as the group make its way from the Gold Coast to the Melbourne Big Day Out to raise awareness of headspace and the services it provides to young people going through a tough time.
Led by Grinspoon frontman Phil Jamieson, the group of musicians, TV personalities and sportspeople stopped to meet young people and families, perform a few songs and get involved with local activities run by the headspace centre.
headspace CEO Chris Tanti said Rock N Ride was a unique way of putting mental health on the agenda.
“We want to improve the lives of young Australians, so we need to make sure they know there’s youth-friendly support available for them and their friends,” he said.
“This ride will help to raise the profile of our headspace centres and how they can help.”
The headspace Port Macquarie Rock N Ride event was held on Town Green and included a free sausage sizzle and cake to mark the local centre’s first birthday.
headspace Port Macquarie centre spokesperson Nicole Kosseris said they were thrilled to be one of the pit stops.
“Rock N Ride is important to the Port Macquarie community because it raises awareness of the issues that young people face,” she said.
“It also highlights the support available from services like us.”
