RECOVERING from cancer can be a hard battle physically and emotionally and extremely stressful.
One way to help speed up recovery and also improve your life generally is meditation – and the good news is that it doesn’t have to cost you a single cent.
Qualified meditation instructor Pam Sainsbury, a Member of the International Institute for Complementary Therapists, started free weekly classes for people recovering from cancer in Port Macquarie in August last year.
Support has been good and the feedback excellent, so Pam is now publicising the classes to make more people aware of them.
She said the benefits of meditation for people battling illness were well documented and included an all-round general health improvement and also sometimes self-esteem.
During the classes, she teaches people how to breathe and relax and also gives them exercises they can use at home on a daily basis between classes.
“The classes are also a very supportive environment where people can talk about their issues,” she said.
She finds the sessions work better if restricted to just people recovering from cancer, so for that reason they are not open to partners or friends.
The classes are held every Friday from 1.30-2.30pm. Pam likes to talk to people before they attend, so ring her for more information and venue details.
People who have not done meditation before are most welcome.
“All you need is a rug for your knees if you want to sit on a chair or a mat if you prefer to lie on the floor,” she said.
