LIONS District Governor Alan Cunningham and his wife Maureen visited Port Macquarie Lions Club as a part of their tour of all the clubs in district 201n1.
This district of Lions clubs is composed of 66 Lions, 7 Leos (young people’s Lions) and 4 Lionesses clubs. Alan is a member of Maclean Lions Club.
Alan and Maureen spent time with president John Fulton, who showed them the sights of Port Macquarie, including the club’s own meeting room – the Lions Den. They also visited Lions Lookout above Town Beach. Alan was brought up to date on the progress of redevelopment of the site and the frustrations that the club has been having getting council to approve the concept plan they have had since last May.
During his visit, he inducted new member Wendy Smith at the normal fortnightly meeting. Alan also spoke about his theme for 2013/14, which is Cherish the Past – Challenge the Future. Interestingly, the Lions logo shows two lions, one looking back and the other facing forward. Alan’s theme certainly fits in with this concept.
Alan’s wife Maureen also has a charity that she has been promoting throughout the district called Bears of Hope, which supports families who have lost a child through pregnancy and infant loss. The family receives a Bear of Hope from another bereaved family, who provides ongoing support.
District Governor Alan and Maureen were made feel very welcome and said they enjoyed the camaraderie and fun members experience at the Port Macquarie Lions fortnightly meetings.
