A JAMIE Oliver pop-up kitchen may be a possibility for the Hastings.
Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food has announced plans to open its first pop-up kitchen to teach people how to cook good, nutritious food with applications from individuals and community groups across the nation being accepted until 5pm yesterday.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council is throwing its support behind an application from Hastings District Respite Care.
Mayor Peter Besseling said the pop-up kitchen would link in well with council’s Move Eat Live Well Program, which is running through to June 2014.
“Our LGA health statistics in relation to cardiovascular disease and obesity are above the national and state average,” Cr Besseling said.
“Along with our rapidly growing aged population the impacts of poor eating on our economy and social fabric is tremendous.
“Through Move Eat Live Well program we have run 45 cooking classes with over 200 participants with the feedback being 100 per cent positive.
“Those classes were a real hit and we believe there are hundreds of other people out there who would be interested in healthy cooking classes.”
