Top job, Jack

School dux Jack Budgen.

PORT Macquarie High School held a special assembly of the whole school to honour their most successful student in last year’s HSC.
Jack Budgen topped the rankings and was given the title ‘dux of the school’. His family and friends were also present to see Jack honoured
Jack, who is a softly spoken and unassuming young man, was presented with a certificate to mark the occasion and $100 from the P&C Association.
In thanking the school, Jack spoke of how surprised he was when told the good news. He put his success down to hard work and the extra help he got from his teachers who gave up their free time to run extra tutorial sessions.
Jack plans on taking a gap year and he would like to study chemical engineering either at the University of New South Wales in Sydney or at Newcastle University starting in 2015.
At the same assembly, new principal Mrs Haddon gave her first address to the school and presented the students from Years 9 and 10 who had won prizes in the premier’s volunteer program with certificates of appreciation.
Two of last year’s talented musical students, Alex Cosato and Taylor Young, also presented a musical item.
School captain Rhys Boreham gave the captain’s address and Year 12 advisor Mr Neilson gave some words of wisdom and practical advice.
School P&C president Mrs Burbridge presented Year 12 with their badges, which is a school tradition.
The dux assembly was the first formal assembly and helped set the academic tone for the new school year.
