Trickle down approach

The scenic surrounds of Cowarra Dam.

IF YOU’VE ever wondered how that oh-so-clear water arrives in your tap, now is your chance to find out.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council is conducting a free Water Trail Tour this Saturday in celebration of World Water Day.
World Water Day is an international day of awareness declared by the United Nations, held annually on 22 March.
This year’s theme relates to the relationship between energy and water, where water is needed to generate electricity while energy is needed to pump, treat and supply clean water.
The council is conducting an informative tour of the water supply system for residents of the Hastings area to gain a better understanding of how water is managed and conserved locally.
The tour will provide residents with an overview of the council’s catchment-to-tap philosophy, including water harvesting, storage and treatment processes, along with information on how water restriction trigger levels are linked to storage rather than flows.
The guided tour will include the Koree Island Pumping Station, the Wauchope Water Treatment Plant, Cowarra Dam and the Reclaimed Water Treatment facility in Port Macquarie.
Participants will meet the bus at the Players Theatre car park (at rear of council building) in Burrawan Street, Port Macquarie, at 8.45am for a 9am departure. Return and end of tour will be about 1.15 pm.
The tour is free of charge and bookings are essential.
