Easier access online

Mayor Peter Besseling tries out the website.

ACCESSING Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s website for information should now be even easier.
Council has just unveiled its new website which features easily accessible content and a good search function.
Mayor Peter Besseling said the design was aesthetically pleasing but also extremely user-friendly and would provide an effective electronic platform for the council to communicate with ratepayers and residents for years to come.
“It is a work in progress and I encourage residents to visit www.pmhc.nsw.gov.au and to provide us with their feedback,” Cr Besseling said.
A study has shown that website visits increased from 406,349 (January to December 2011) to 436,434 (January to December 2012) with customers remaining on the site for about two-and-a-half minutes.
Mobile visits have also increased from 6.03 per cent (January to December 2011) to 16.83 per cent (January to December 2012), which has prompted the website design to be steered towards new age technology, including smart phones and tablets.
The council’s information and communication technology group manager Mark Champion said the aim was to provide a better search engine, simplifying the menus, removing unnecessary information and making the site easily accessible from phones and tablets.
“Feedback from the website will give us the initiative to further improve other sites such as the tourism, library and Glasshouse websites,” he said.
In the meantime, Mr Champion said, the council’s focus would remain on building the corporate council website with a view to incorporating other services at a later date.
