PORT Macquarie MP Leslie Williams has welcomed the announcement that the North Coast will benefit from an additional $208,750 grant to promote holidays to the Asian tourism market.
“I am very pleased with this grant which promises to provide a much-needed boost to tourism along the North Coast region,” Mrs Williams said.
“This funding was made available under the NSW Government’s Regional Visitor Economy Fund’s inaugural round of quarantined funding and will specifically target visitors from Singapore.
“The fly-drive campaign, in partnership with FlyScoot as well as North Coast tourism stakeholders, will create awareness of the benefits and ease of fly-drive holidays in NSW.
“Visitors can take advantage of low-cost airfares in and out of Sydney or the Gold Coast and creates the perfect opportunity for a fly-drive holiday for Singaporean travellers on the legendary Pacific Coast.”
Tourism Minister George Souris announced earlier this year the NSW Government had committed $21.6 million to the Regional Visitor Economy Fund over three years – a $6 million increase.
Together with the previously announced grant of $484,250 for the North Coast, the NSW Government has invested $693,000 since July 2013 which will be matched dollar for dollar by the North Coast Destination Network.
Last year, visitor expenditure was worth more than $13.7 billion to the NSW economy, which is an increase of over 11 per cent on the previous year.
