RETURNING Rocks Ferry Reserve in Wauchope to its pre-flood former glory is proving a harder task than expected.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council called tenders for the work and allocated what staff estimated was an adequate amount – $293,685.66 – for the project but both tenders came in above that.
Council resolved at its general meeting last week to enter into discussions with one of those tenderers, Deklax Pty Ltd, to see if they can be completed for the budgeted amount.
Mayor Peter Besseling said it was still council’s aim to return the reserve to its pre-flood condition as soon as possible.
The popular reserve was extensively damaged by Hastings River floodwaters in February and March last year. Funding for the necessary repairs was secured in November.
Cr Besseling said the discussions would take place as soon as possible and were not expected to result in any significant delays to the project.
