‘Pies high five

First-grade Magpies all-rounder Jesse Schmidt is looking forward to getting bat on ball this weekend.

IN Hastings Cricket wet weather was a major factor once again affecting last weekend’s results with only two of the eight semi-finals scheduled going ahead.
In first grade, both games were abandoned, meaning the Port City Leagues Magpies advance over Comboyne into the preliminary final. The ‘Pies will now face Wauchope with the winner meeting Macquarie in the grand final on the weekend of 12-13 April.
No action in second grade either, so the Magpies receive direct passage into the decider to await the winner of Wauchope and Port Pirates while the season is over for Macquarie.
In third grade, the Port City Swoopers move on to the next stage after their match against Wauchope Red was washed out. The Swoopers will meet Wauchope Blue in one preliminary final while at Kendall the Strikers upset Bonny Hills for the second time within a month with a comprehensive 51-run victory.
Magpies captain Rob Mooney top scored with 40 with Josh Felton knocking up 32 runs in their total of 8/154. Sean Mooney then tore through the opposition finishing with figures of 4/20 with Felton chipping in with 2/17 to have the Hills dismissed for 103.
The Strikers will now go head to head with the Pirates Billhooks in the other preliminary final.
In the fourth-grade minor semi-final, Wauchope defeated the Pirates Sea Dogs at Landrigan Park, meaning they will now clash with Port City, whose game with the ladder-leading Pirates Rum Runners was called off. The Rum Runners advance to the grand final.
With just two weeks remaining this season the Port City Leagues Magpies are the only club to have all five teams still involved in the competition.
