PORT Macquarie Blue Water Fishing Club members finally made it out on the water last weekend after two cancelled trips due to poor weather.
On Sunday 30 March, a fleet of six boats went to sea with 12 fisherpersons on board. Conditions were excellent with a slight sou’wester blowing early and plenty of blue clean water.
The club’s barbecue and weigh-in at noon and was very well supported by members, families and friends. Fish that greeted the weigh-master included spanish mackerel, spotted mackerel, mack tuna, snapper, morwong, flathead and dolphin fish.
Best boat on the day was Easybeat, skippered by Geoff Shelton, with 32.58 points and the runner-up was Gunner, skippered by Jim Fischer, with 20.08 points.
The trophy for the biggest fish was won by Geoff Shelton with a spanish mackerel of 8.76kg. The snapper trophy was won by Ron Hopper with a fish weighing 6.2kg. The flathead trophy was won by the flathead king Billy Vogel with an ocean sand flathead weighing 7.2kg and the secret weight trophy was won by Jim Fischer. The junior trophy was not contested.
The raffle was won by Jim Fischer and the club’s marble draw was not won and will jackpot until the club’s next outing, which will be on Sunday 13 April with the weigh-in and barbecue commencing at noon at the marina.
